Club History
In late 1987 rugby players from Castle Donington were approached by luminaries in the village about starting its own rugby team.
J Jones, G England L Taylor and others set about obtaining funds for new kit and equipment and advertising in the village for players, old and new, to come and play in the inaugural match which was held in February of 1988.
This fixture against West Bridgford was a resounding success with a hard fought and deserved victory with D Kyle scoring all Castle Donington's points.
During the first years CDRUFC played on Sundays with most of the players playing for other clubs on Saturdays. In the early nineties the club took the bold move of moving to Saturday rugby and started playing in the leagues which had been set up a few seasons earlier.
Success quickly followed and the club grew from this to achieve promotions and cup wins, never losing its traditions of being a family club and having a good time as its core value. The club were promoted to Midlands Division 4 East (North) in Season 2005/06 and played in that division for two seasons.
The club currently play in Midlands Division 5 East (North).
